November 20, 2009: Ah, the distillation of comics as told Derek. He's right, though. They are the new mythology. More so than film, television, or even straight-up narrative prose. Comics use archetypes more effectively than any other medium because it's the medium in which they work best. That's why it's often so difficult to adapt comics to either the big or small screen. Those archetypes just don't translate as well in those mediums. And of course not all comics are the simple adolescent male power fantasy. Yes, many are. But not all. But Derek doesn't give a shit about any of that. He wants his comics like he wants his music and his women - loud, fast, and apt to piss off the older generation! |
